State of Magento in 2026: Why Adobe Commerce Still Matters for Complex Commerce

Adobe Commerce is narrowing into a cloud-first, B2B-friendly enterprise platform. Here is who still benefits from Magento in 2026 and who should move on.

Magento in 2026 is a specialist story, not a mass-market one. Its footprint is much smaller than WordPress or Drupal, but that is not the same as irrelevance. The platform now matters most where commerce is complex: B2B workflows, layered catalog rules, multiple storefronts, or heavy integration with the rest of the business.

Adobe’s direction is the real signal. The company keeps pushing Commerce toward cloud services, composable architecture, B2B capabilities, workflow simplification, and more operational automation. That tells you what Adobe is optimising for: teams that already operate serious commerce environments and need control more than simplicity.

That makes Adobe Commerce strategically valuable when the store is not simple. If the business depends on contract pricing, company accounts, approvals, ERP integration, or multi-store complexity, Magento still deserves a serious look. In that world, the platform’s depth is a feature rather than a burden.

The flip side is just as important. If the team wants the fastest launch path, the smallest maintenance load, or a straightforward DTC store, Magento may be too heavy. Shopify and similar platforms often win because they reduce friction instead of maximising flexibility. That is not a weakness in Magento. It is a mismatch in use case.

The best way to frame it is this: Adobe Commerce is not the default answer for every commerce project, but it is still the right answer for a particular kind of enterprise complexity. In commerce, the best platform is the one that matches the shape of the business, not the one with the loudest marketing.
